You have two amazing options for church Sunday July 5th! Our annual brunch and hike service returns, or a meditative service at the church led by Ginger Yoder.
- For the Brunch: We’ve reserved a picnic shelter at Phillips Farm north of Moscow and plan on serving a full breakfast buffet at 10 am! Folks can hike the trails before or after our breakfast as groups or individually. The church is providing the main dishes and coffee. Think pancakes and meat on the griddle, including meat alternatives. We’ll use dishes from the church, so you don’t need to bring plates, etc. If you can, bring a dish to share, and/or sign up to help cook or clean up. Also, lawn chairs are a good idea, and yard games, etc! Look for a signup link in church emails.
- If you would rather have a more traditional Sunday experience join Ginger Yoder in the sanctuary at our regular church time for a meditative, no tech, service. Zoom will be available. *There will be childcare at the church building this Sunday, no formal RE. The order of service is below.
Held in the Quiet
A Self-Guided, Reflective, Worship Service
Unitarian Universalist Church of the Palouse
Sunday July 5, 2026. 10 am
Welcome
This is a quiet, self-led service.
There is no right way to participate. You may move through this order of service, or you may simply sit in silence. You may write, draw, color, meditate, breathe, gaze out the window, rest your eyes, or do nothing at all.
Your inner presence should lead the way.
Let this be a space where nothing is asked of you, where you can discover what you are needing now, in this moment.
There are writing and drawing materials available on the back tables.
Childcare is available in the RE rooms beginning at 10 am.
Gathering
Please find a place to sit.
Take a few breaths.
Notice your body in the chair.
Notice your feet on the floor.
Notice the room holding you.
You may say silently to yourself,
I have arrived in this place of quiet and comfort.
In this space I am held by the community that surrounds me, and am invited to open and listen more deeply to myself.
Opening Words
“Instead of asking, “Have I worked hard enough to deserve rest? I’ve started asking, “Have I rested enough to do my most loving, meaningful work?” – Nicola Jane Hobbs
Candle Lighting
We have our chalice lit and candles available.
If you would like, light a candle.
As the flame burns, consider:
What joys or sorrows am I carrying?
What do I need to release into the flame this morning?
Reading for Reflection
The world makes many demands on
your time, your skin, and your heart. Until
you are left gasping and wondering
if you will ever do enough,
have enough, be enough. Stop your
counting, measuring, and checking.
You are enough. So much more than enough, made from fragments
of the galaxy.
You
do
measure up.
And to recover from
the doubt pressed upon you,
the antidote for doubt is dreaming.
All the dreams that call to you,
lime green and frosting pink dreams.
The other soft and tender dreams that run blue to gray,
sky indistinguishable from lulling
Sea. The dreams that seem impossible-
listen: that’s their natures. If they had already happened, then they
would be realities, solid and smooth,
like the round bone home of an unbroken egg. Be brave enough to
name your dream. Nurture it. And
allow the rhythm of your breath to bring your dreams to life.

Meditation
You are invited to use the paper, pencils, and coloring materials or simply sit in the quiet.
Prompts, if helpful:
What dream can I name?
What is stopping me from feeling worthy?
In what ways can my dreams be my anecdote from doubt?
Can I let in that I truly measure up?
Closing Words
I confess that I have skipped to the back
of the book. I really wanted to know what
or who or how the story went. I told myself that if I
still wanted to read the rest, then it must be good.
But that only works for paperback books.
life is a little less linear. And still wanted to know
how the journey will go, I am willing to dance with
the suspense. What will become of a failure? What
can be built with an honest mistake? Keep paying
attention. Keep dreaming and supposing that more
is possible. We don’t yet know the ending. And if
you are tired, then it must be time to rest. Staying
curious is like a muscle. We flex – reaching for what
we don’t yet know. And relax – leaving space for what/
is yet to come.
