We’re all well-versed in the virtues of generosity, but we often see neediness–the other side of the coin–as burdensome. However, our willingness to accept help is also a gift to the world. The needs of others are no affront but an opportunity for purpose and connection. We need to abandon the myth of individualism and learn to savor the opportunity to serve and be served in turn, for those ties are precisely what will reknit our frayed society. It’s not all about giving; being open about our needs and willing to receive is also how we weave beloved community.
